Large Sites and Campuses
A boundary big enough to cover a hospital or a plant accepts punches from half the neighbourhood. What to do instead.

Geofencing is easiest where sites are small and far apart. A large site inverts both conditions.
The problem
A hospital, a university, a manufacturing plant, a distribution centre can be hundreds of metres across.
A single boundary covering it also covers the surrounding streets, and often the staff car park, the bus stop and nearby housing.
Which means a punch proves very little — the person is somewhere in a large area that includes places they might be while not at work.
And the walk from the perimeter to the workstation can be ten minutes, which is a pay question in itself.
Where to put the boundary
At the perimeter: easy to punch, proves least, and the walk is inside the paid period.
At the building or department: proves more, harder indoors, and the walk is unpaid.
Decide deliberately and say which, because in several jurisdictions whether the walk is working time is contested and the boundary placement is effectively that decision.
Multiple zones
Better than one large one.
A zone per building or department, each sized for its own conditions.
Which also tells you where someone clocked in, useful on a campus where people work in different places on different days.
And it makes the refusal rate diagnosable by building rather than site-wide.
Where other methods fit better
Large sites usually have wifi throughout, which makes network visibility a strong primary method — it works indoors, it covers the buildings and not the street, and the infrastructure already exists.
Beacons at department entrances for the same reason.
Fixed terminals at entrances, which handle shift-change volume and need no phone.
On a large site these are usually better than geofencing, and the geofence becomes a secondary check rather than the primary.
The indoor problem is worse here
Deep interiors of large buildings frequently have no usable satellite fix at all.
Basements, plant rooms, wards, warehouse floors.
Measure specifically in those places, not at the main entrance, because that is where people are when they want to clock in.
The design that usually works
Wifi or beacon as the primary method, per building.
A geofence around the whole site as a secondary check.
Terminals at the highest-volume entrances.
Accept-with-flag everywhere.
And a stated decision about whether the walk from the gate is paid, which is the question the technology otherwise answers by accident.
Measure in the deep interior
Not at the main entrance.
Basements, plant rooms, wards, warehouse floors.
That is where people are when they want to clock in, and where satellite fixes fail completely.
A measurement taken at the front door of a large building tells you nothing about whether the system will work for the people inside it.
Check the difficult case
Use this project connection to frame one representative test. The useful evidence is the record created when an employee corrects an entry and an administrator exports it.
